Mike Amiri started his inspiring fashion trajectory in his native LA making ultra-cool custom looks for performers. The city’s always burgeoning music scene, indeed, provided a powerful base for the brand’s aesthetic vibe that made him a household fashion name in the American and global fashion industries.
For his new Fall-Winter 2023 AMIRI campaign, the designer tapped legendary Brooklyn hip-hop duo Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and Talib Kweli of Black Star.
Shot by Karim Sadli and styled by Ellie Grace Cumming, Bey and Kweli are featured in looks from the fall-winter lineup which, according to tbe brand, artfully fuse 50s and 90s Americana.
Looks include a dropped shoulder vegan leather car coat and a black double-breasted brushed wool overcoat and a layered sleeve dress shirt. A driver hat and a paperboy add to the campaign’s cool 90s hip-hop vibe — as does the accompanying video featuring Black Star tracks “Yonders” and “The Main Thing is to Keep The Main Thing The Main Thing.”
“Reflecting AMIRI’s long-standing relationship with music as an expression of cultural messaging and ideas, the campaign speaks to Black Star’s craft: the duo’s capacity to revolutionize old-school techniques through progressive flow and rhyme mirrors the collection’s artistry and silhouette,” the brand stated.
