FASHION: British shoe connoisseur Jimmy Choo and prominent French fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier have just launched their new collaboration with a campaign featuring singer Kylie Minogue.
The two brands have made waves in their respective industries for decades. Jimmy Choo may have started as a tiny shoe shop, but the brand now has its own empire — thanks largely to the late Princess Diana and Sarah Jessica Parker’s iconic line “I lost my Choo,” in Sex and the City. Despite not attending fashion school, Jean Paul Gaultier centers inclusivity and care in his work, which has given him notable relevance in the fashion world and beyond. But the two forces coming together for this collection opens a whole new world of shoe design.
The collection features a line of six different shoes, from kitten heels to pumps to boots. Mixing the two brands’ identities together, the Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration redefines rebellion while paying close attention to craft. With clear national inspiration, the two brands live in different spheres — Jimmy Choo with an eclectic British identity and Jean Paul Gaultier with an elegant Parisian one. In this collection, creative director Sandra Choi of Jimmy Choo and Florence Tétier of Jean Paul Gaultier merge the two styles into one.

In an on-the-nose take on their cities of inspiration, Choi and Tétier created a shoe with the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben acting as the heels. Held by clear plexiglass, The Wedge shoe sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to the more expressive designs featured in the collection. Many pieces combine neutral shades with a pop of expression, whether that’s by adding bright hues or distinctive detailing.
This stylistic tension only adds to the rebellious nature of the collection. Designs feature corset-style lacing, bulky gold chains, tattoo-inspired prints, and bulky cuffs that give the collection a palpable angst. Married seamlessly with Jimmy Choo’s classic, sleek silhouette, this collection finds the perfect balance between subversion and conformity. In a way, the Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration proves that the two brands share more similarities than differences. With a sharp focus on individuality, Choi and Tétier created this collection with a lens of sexuality, liberation, and artistry.
