Taylor Swift Makes VMAs Comeback in a Dramatic, Totally Sheer-Back Dress With a Special Nod

Taylor Swift is in the building. The singer graced the 2026 VMAs red carpet on September 27th in Los Angeles, wearing a dress that made the whole place shimmer—and included a special nod.

The “Cardigan” artist, who attended without husband Travis Kelce, was a must-see in a Tamara Ralph fall/winter 2026 couture gown that featured a black halter bodice, which seemingly nodded to the LBD she wore in her “Patient Zero” promo. The centerpiece also had a completely sheer lace-up back and silver glitter-coated skirt. She added strappy silver sequin heels, dangly diamond drop earrings, and a smattering of diamond rings, including her 10-carat old mine cut engagement ring.

For glam, Swift complemented the look with rosy makeup and a coral lip. She wore her hair down in a blowout, allowing her recent chop to make its awards show debut.

Swift’s appearance comes after she skipped the 2025 ceremony. She last attended the VMAs in 2024, turning heads in a black-and-yellow plaid look from Christian Dior.

This year’s VMAs mark a major milestone for Swift as she’ll be honored with the first-ever Artist Director Honors. Per a press release shared on September 21, the new award highlights “groundbreaking music artist whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling.”

Additionally, the star is up for Video of the Year, Best Pop, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects for “The Fate of Ophelia,” as well as Best Album for The Life of a Showgirl and Song of the Summer for “I Knew It, I Knew You.”

Awards aside, the evening will be a special one for Swift for another reason: It’ll be her first VMAs as a married woman.
